Four quick questions about what happened, and we’ll show you how the deadline applies to you — then a lawyer reviews your answers and calls you back.
Tell us what happened and a lawyer will review it and call you back, usually the same business day.
This check gives general information about how the scheme works. It isn’t legal advice about your circumstances, and it doesn’t create a lawyer–client relationship. If you’re near a deadline, call (07) 5627 0321.

The law
Road accident compensation in Queensland is governed by the Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994 (Qld) and administered by the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC).
The system operates on a fault basis.
This means that to claim compensation beyond basic statutory benefits, you generally need to establish that another road user was wholly or partially at fault for your accident. This could be another driver, a motorcyclist, a cyclist, a pedestrian — or even a government authority responsible for dangerous road conditions.
Every registered Queensland vehicle carries Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance. This covers your injuries if someone else caused or contributed to your accident.
Where another party is at fault, you may be entitled to claim common law damages for pain and suffering, past and future economic loss, treatment expenses, and care requirements.
| Governing legislation | Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994 (Qld) |
|---|---|
| Administered by | Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) |
| Notice deadline | Notify the CTP insurer within 9 months of the accident |
| Fault required? | Yes — the scheme operates on a fault basis |
| Unidentified vehicle? | Claim proceeds against the Nominal Defendant |
| Our fees | No Win, No Fee on approved matters. No uplift fees, no percentages. |
You must notify the CTP insurer within 9 months of the accident, or within 9 months of becoming aware you have a claim. Extensions can be sought, but delays create serious risks to your claim.
The complexity is real — but getting help is simple. We’ll confirm your exact position, explain what you’re entitled to, and build a strategy that protects both your health and your compensation.
Eligibility
You may be entitled to make a CTP compensation claim if you were injured as a result of someone else’s negligence in a motor vehicle accident — whether you were a driver, passenger, motorcyclist, cyclist, pedestrian, or any other road user.
Not sure if you have a claim? That’s exactly why your first step should be a free assessment — not weeks of Googling or stressing alone.
Contact us and within one appointment, you’ll know your legal options and have a treatment plan in place. No other firm in Queensland can offer that.
Injuries
Regardless of injury type: if you’ve been hurt in a Queensland road accident and someone else was at fault, you may have a claim — and you deserve treatment that starts immediately, not whenever the insurer feels like approving it.
If any of these sound like what happened to you, it’s worth a conversation.

Why us
Here’s what we do differently. Or more accurately: here’s what no one else does.
The quality and timing of your medical treatment doesn’t just affect your health — it directly determines the strength of your compensation claim.
Early, well-coordinated, carefully documented treatment does two things most firms can’t deliver:
Get the right treatment early and your recovery accelerates. Delay it, and you’re fighting pain for years.
When your records show consistent, expert-guided treatment from week one, insurers can’t argue your injuries “aren’t that serious.”
But here’s the problem: in every other firm, your legal team waits while you scramble to find doctors, miss early treatment windows, and gather scattered evidence. By the time lawyers get involved, the damage is done — both to your body and your claim.
At Lifestyle Injury Lawyers, your treating health professionals and your legal team work as one unit from your very first call. Assessment + Treatment + Compensation. It’s not a slogan. It’s the only model that actually works.
Our model
Lifestyle Injury Lawyers is Queensland’s first — and still only — fully integrated injury treatment and compensation law firm.
Assessment + Treatment + Compensation. Not three separate journeys. One seamless path to full recovery.
Your injury is an event. Your recovery is a journey. We’re with you for every step.
When your car accident leaves you in pain, you’re not getting better “soon.” You’re getting better now.
What you must know
Here’s what most people aren’t told about road accident compensation in Queensland.
The system is designed for efficiency. Just not your efficiency.
After your accident, you’re expected to navigate the CTP insurer on your own — lodge your claim within strict timeframes, battle for treatment approvals, prove your injuries, and somehow get better while fighting a system built to minimise payouts.
Most people don’t know they can access immediate rehabilitation through the CTP scheme. Most don’t realise that delays in treatment don’t just hurt your health — they devastate your claim. And most have no idea that early, thorough medical evidence is the single biggest factor in whether you receive fair compensation or get lowballed.
The path most injured Queenslanders are pushed down after a road accident — and where it tends to break.
You’re injured, shaken, and dealing with insurers before you’ve had a chance to think.
A GP visit, then a physio referral, then more waiting for approvals.
Now scrambling to build evidence from a trail that has already gone cold.
Your injury has settled in for the long term, and the offer falls short of what’s fair.
You’ve seen it. You might be living it right now.
We built Lifestyle Injury Lawyers because that system is broken — and injured Queenslanders deserve better.
The difference
Most compensation lawyers will tell you they’re experienced. We’d hope so — that’s the baseline, not the difference.
Here’s what makes us different: we refuse to accept the gap.
The gap between your accident and treatment. The gap between your lawyer and your doctors. The gap that lets injuries become chronic, lets evidence go stale, and lets insurers offer you a fraction of what you deserve.
We exist to close that gap — permanently.
Lifestyle Injury Lawyers is the only practice in Australia where a compensation lawyer and treating health professionals work side-by-side from your very first contact. Your treatment strengthens your claim. Your claim funds your treatment. It’s one integrated system because that’s the only way injured Queenslanders actually recover fully — physically, mentally and financially.
We’ve spent 10+ years exclusively helping people injured in road accidents. We know the CTP insurers and how they assess claims, and we know what it takes to get a fair result.
Your injury is an event. Your recovery is a journey. Let’s start it together.

Common questions
Any road user injured by someone else’s negligence — driver, passenger, motorcyclist, cyclist or pedestrian.
The CTP scheme covers your injuries where another road user, or in some cases a road authority, caused or contributed to the accident.
You must notify the CTP insurer within 9 months of the accident, or within 9 months of becoming aware you have a claim.
Extensions can be sought, but delays create serious risks. The earlier you start, the stronger both your treatment and your evidence will be.
Yes — these are handled as Nominal Defendant claims.
The Nominal Defendant stands in place of the insurer where the at-fault vehicle cannot be traced or was uninsured. Strict notice requirements apply, so act quickly.
No. You can still claim where another road user was partially at fault.
The scheme operates on a fault basis, but liability can be shared. Your compensation may be reduced to reflect your share of responsibility rather than refused outright.
Every road accident claim we take runs on a No Win, No Fee basis, with no uplift fees and no percentages.
Your first consultation is free and carries no obligation.
Yes — and you should. Most people don’t realise they can access rehabilitation through the CTP scheme early.
Our model exists precisely so treatment starts at first contact rather than after the insurer gets around to approving it.
